I came across some great and often overlooked blogging advice today for any businesses using a blog as part of its content marketing efforts. The premise is this: Influence people with an emotional connection.

I read this in a post called “The Secret Sauce of  a Great Blog Post” by Ilana Rabinowitz. It reads in part:

“. . . the most successful blog posts are those where the writer has tuned into something that the reader is experiencing.  This affects that part of the brain, generating an emotional connection with the reader.”

It continues: “For those who understand how people really make decisions, that’s the key. You may imagine that we weigh all the rational choices and do some mental calculation in our heads that helps us make a choice but in reality, all the possible considerations would literally stop us in our tracks if we didn’t have the shorthand of emotions to guide us.”

There’s a lot of truth to what is said in the post and many businesses, including us at Fusionfarm, could benefit greatly by keeping in mind that as marketers our job is to connect people on an emotional level. That connection – and the creative process of how we get there – is first. The number of likes, shares, pageviews and other analytics support that connection and help us make it event better.
